Ware Operatic are giving one pair of lucky winners the chance to see their new production of Kiss Me, Kate absolutely free! Not only that – they’re throwing in a meal for two at Hertford’s award-winning Indian restaurant, Ruby.
Kiss Me, Kate was written by Samuel and Bella Spewack with music and lyrics by Cole Porter. First playing on Broadway in 1948, it’s gone on to be a hit around the world, with multiple revivals in America and London’s West End.
The plot revolves around a team of thespians in 1940s Baltimore, who are putting on a musical version of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. Tensions rise between actor-director Fred Graham and leading lady (and ex-wife) Lilli Vanessi. Fred’s illicit relationship with Lois Lane adds further complication, as does Louis’ gambler boyfriend Bill who’s on the wrong side of a group of gangsters. A night of fun, farce, music and laughs unfolds!
Ware Operatic will be returning to Hertford Theatre in March to perform such show-stopping numbers as Brush Up Your Shakespeare, Always True to You in My Fashion, and So In Love.
